Sometimes it can be frustrating, not to have lesson plans, be warned about potential troublemakers, not to be able to locate resource materials, etc. But you know what? It’s terrific when we overcome these obstacles, teach, and feel that we have made a difference.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span style='font-size:16.0pt'> </span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto'><span style='font-size:16.0pt'> Turns out that <b>we</b> can be frustrating too… each year the officers and board of directors do their best to ensure that we have “the tools” to do our best. This core group is the <b>Lee County Association of Professional Substitute Teachers</b> (<b><a href="http://lcapst.org/">http://lcapst.org</a></b>). A member of The National Alliance of Substitute Teachers, <b>LCAPST</b>’s mission is to promote dignity and respect for us, support professional development and training programs; a fair evaluation and grievance process, and improved wages </span>(I recently returned from a visit to NH and was appalled to learn that veteran [30+ yr] teachers receive only $65/ hr to sub in city schools)<span style='font-size:16.0pt'>. Our dedicated (unpaid) officers advance these gains through collective bargaining.
