Sometimes it can be frustrating, not to have lesson plans, be warned about potential troublemakers, not to be able to locate resource materials, etc. But you know what? It’s terrific when we overcome these obstacles, teach, and feel that we have made a difference.<o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> Turns out that we can be frustrating too… each year the officers and board of directors do their best to ensure that we have “the tools” to do our best. This core group is the Lee County Association of Professional Substitute Teachers (<a href="http://lcapst.org/">http://lcapst.org</a>). A member of The National Alliance of Substitute Teachers, LCAPST’s mission is to promote dignity and respect for us, support professional development and training programs; a fair evaluation and grievance process, and improved wages (I recently returned from a visit to NH and was appalled to learn that veteran [30+ yr] teachers receive only $65/ hr to sub in city schools). Our dedicated (unpaid) officers advance these gains through collective bargaining. They work diligently to ensure that we are kept abreast of the newest technologies; provide forums for us to learn what/when/how is expected of us. <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> All that is asked of us is to become members… <a href="http://lcapst.org/forms/LCAPST%20Membership%20Letter-Form.pdf">click here to see how</a>; <o:p></o:p>and, to attend the <a href="http://lcapst.org/2012-2013/School%20Distric%20meeting%20program%202012.pdf" target="_blank">Annual Orientation for Substitute Teachers</a>. The event is planned for Friday, August 3rd, in the auditorium at Estero High School (21900 River Ranch Rd - Estero 33928 [239-947-9400].
