Dear colleagues
I have just learned that one of the teachers  who died at Sandy Hook in the
mass killing there was a substitute teacher.
A gentleman, the husband of a substitute, is using the white house petition
process to attempt to gain recognition for her.
You may want to sign the petition as I have.
Is there one among us who would like to some research on Lauren Rosseau, our
fallen colleague?

Hi,
    Lauren's pic is on many websites.  Just google Sandy Hook victims..  The
day after the shooting, I heard on the abc news that she was a permanent
substitute.  That sounded odd to me.   (It also said she was  not given
keys?!,  when Diane sawyer said that, she sounded concerned)  I checked the
Sandy Hook website the day after.   It didn't find her on the staff roster. 
  I don't know if there's enough time to get the 100,000 signatures, so it
might fail.  If it does we can try again.  Maybe, we can start a National
Substitute Teacher of the Year and have her about the first recipient.  It
would good if we could have
Obama award to her family.  Maybe the national news would cover it.

I had no idea one of the teachers at Sandy Hook was a substitute.

And most of the sub jobs are being taken by the laid off teachers.  
    I need help in another way.  I started a petition in honor of Lauren
Rosseau.  She is the substitute teacher that was killed at Sandy Hook.  At
the time, she was working fulltime as long term sub for a teacher on
maternity leave.  She was also had two other jobs.  She had to, because she
low pay and no health benefits.  Please have people sign it and spread the
word.
I am retired and I will make this my job to gather signatures.

Hi Robert
I'll tell you how but the actual doing, which is MUCH harder, is up to you.
First thing is get some members. Don't ask for dues- -yet.
I suggest you make a list of 20 potential members. Invite them to a meeting.
Of the 10 who come you may find two or three who will help you get started.
next find some more folks to be your nucleus. You find them by repeating the
above process.
When you have 10 people who come to two consecutive meetings email me again
and I'll come out and help you with the next steps

Comment: I want to start a substitute teacher union.  My wife works for the
Temecula valley union school district which has very low pay and little
benefits for substitutes. My wife has had no pay raise since she started
working about 17 years ago. It's absurd.  I need some help in finding out
how to start a union.
