The majority of your questions can be answered by perusing the
Lee County Association of Professional Substitute Teachers website:
<http://lcapst.org/> http://lcapst.org/
In order to stay “in the loop”, it is imperative that you use your District credentials to access your District “business”: email, Leave Management System, PeopleSoft, SafeSchools, Acceptable Use of Technology, etc. If you don’t understand this statement, then you need to register for training. Florida Statutes (1012.35) states :
“The procedure for employment must include… completion of
an initial orientation and training program in district policies and procedures
addressing school safety and security procedures, educational liability laws,
professional responsibilities, and ethics.
Candidates who have no prior teaching experience, as determined by the
employing school district, must complete an additional training program that
includes classroom management skills and instructional strategies.”
Please understand that we have all had a very shortened summer break… that being said, we, ourselves, are still awaiting notice of the 2016-2017 requirements, and changes. When we get them, they will added to our website. Translation: the requirements for 2016-17 have not been released… PLEASE do not go to SafeSchools or Acceptable Use of Technology until you are noticed via District email to do so.
Now, however, is the time to gather your credentials to be ready for the new school year. That includes:
Your District UserName
Your District email address
Your District Password
Your Employee ID a.k.a. DID #
Your LMS Pin
Don’t know what they are? Register for the training! We have attached training materials in this email. Also attached you will find an explanation of who we (LCAPST) we are, and a membership application.
Some answers to your questions:
You may have allowed your District email password to expire. The remedy:
Once employees have successfully registered for Self Service, at anytime from anywhere they can choose the “I forgot My Password” button and reset their password to a new one. The new password requirements are: A minimum of 6 characters and - none of the past 5 passwords can be used.
(Once registered), reset your e-mail account password by answering the security questions: Http://Selfservice.Leeschools.net
If you do not know your password or it has expired beyond 90 days and have not yet registered for Self Service, please contact the Help Desk at (239) 337-8221 <tel:%28239%29%20337-8221> , Mon-Fri, 7am-4:30pm for a password reset.
Substitute teachers need an overview of expectations and instructional strategies that are common among our District schools, hence the Fall Symposium planned by the LCAPST under the auspices of the Lee County School Department.
“[Professional development] designed by and presented by subs for subs is proving to be very effective.” Jan Bowersox, a Seattle Education Association board member in charge of professional development.

__________
InService Credits: InService is a generic term that applies to training available while a teacher is in service as a Florida Certified Teacher. One point of InService credit is awarded for each hour of professional development. This is one point of re-certification credit toward the 120 points required every five years for Florida teacher re-certification. Generally, one hour of training is equivalent to one InService credit point.
LCAPST has been lobbying the LC School Department to acknowledge those substitute/guest teachers who take additional training to receive a higher pay tier.
